The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has revealed willingness to adopt the Computer Based Tests (CBT) method. According to the WAEC’s Board Registrar, Dr. Iyi Uwadae, it plans to introduce the technology into its examination across the West African sub region. Speaking at the Board’s 20th annual endowment fund lecture in its Ikeja, Lagos, international office, he said:
“WAEC is ready to adopt the technology based method in conducting its examination across West African Countries. The Board’s new international office in Lagos is already equipped with internet facilities and can sit over 350 candidates at once”. He disclosed that WAEC’s Ikeja office was used by JAMB for the recently-conducted UTME examination.
Although, the exam is theoretical in nature which is of concern if adopting the CBT method, compared to the UTME’s objective questions. He added “The fact that the WAEC exams are theoretical will not stand as a major challenge in adopting the CBT, though, our Board will not in a rush to adopting this CBT method.”
