In a speech delivered by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mike Dola, he said the company was a product of the desire to attain Africa that will not be at the mercy of foreign assistance, but a continent that will be the convergent point of global trade.
Below is details of the speech:
I am highly delighted to address you today about my long term dream for Africa. A company which only existed in my imaginations as a mere dream about a decade ago is today a reality, more real than even as reality has rendered it.
It was a dream born not out of quest for personal prosperity; it is a product of an ardent desire for an Africa that will not be at the mercy of foreign aids, as opined by Dambisa Moyo in her book “Dead Aid: Why Aid is not working and how there is better way for Africa” but a continent that will be the convergent point of global trade.
As an entrepreneur, I have been opportune to visit all the continents of the world and I can vehemently say that Africa can be the greatest if its potentials could be fully harnessed by Africans.
Africa hosts virtually all known mineral resources in commercial quantity, the weather and soil is the best for agriculture. Our rich and diverse arts/cultures and countless tourist attraction could drive billions of dollars into our economy if properly promoted. The continent has an amazing population which has not been well harnessed to its advantage.
According to Vijay Mahajan in his book, “Africa Rising”, he described Africa as one of the fastest growing markets with more than 900 million consumers. As much as it sounds like good news, it is not the best for Africans’ that their market is predominantly a consumer market. Entrepreneurs and business men are only interested in taking advantage of the big market for profit making. They do not care if the goods and services traded in the African market originated from Africa.
In the real sense, Africa is merely a big market out of which money is being taken away to other continents by majorly non – Africans
Cokodeal Limited, a UK – African multinational company is determined to help Africa take advantage of its large market through cokodeal.com: like alibaba.com in Asia. Cokodeal.com is Africa’s largest local content e-commerce site, with presence in Tanzania, Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, Rwanda, Kenya and Zambia. The company provides an online marketplace where individuals and businessmen can buy, import and export only African produced goods and services.
The idea behind cokodeal.com is that farmers and craftsmen in the remotest land locked villages of Rwanda or Tanzania can easily create online stores on the websites with little technical knowledge and upload images and videos of their goods for interested buyers in Europe, Asia, and American cities to view and make a purchase order. Also, this helps to drive higher income for goods traded that leads to higher Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Cokodeal.com will help African manufacturers, farmers, textile industry, solid mineral miners/traders, SMEs and service provider to easily connect with prospective business partners outside Africa. It will also go a long way to promote intra-Africa trade.
Cokodeal.com will contribute in no small measure to the promotion of the African local content which is imperative to the transition of the continent from the third world to first world.
